Insomnia is a sleep disorder characterized by difficulty in falling asleep or remaining asleep or both. It is usually caused if one is suffering from body pain, stress, anxiety, depression or any breathing problems


Symptoms to look for:

• Caffeine and alcohol


Food groups to consume in insomnia:

1. Serotonin & melatonin producing foods: Relaxes brain and
induces sleep

Foods to consume: Milk and milk products, eggs, bananas, almonds, peanuts, dates, figs, sunflower seeds, pumpkin seeds and poppy seeds, soy milk, tofu, chickpeas and tuna fish


Recipes based on the above food groups:

Recipe 1: Tuna salad

Tuna is rich in omega – 3s and helps reduce the bad cholesterol level in the body

1. Drain and add about 50 g tuna in a bowl
2. Chop ½ an onion and add this to a bowl
3. Also chop and add ½ capsicum
4. Then, add a few chopped celery leaves
5. Now, add 2-3 chopped green olives
6. Add 1 tsp lemon juice as well
7. Add 1 tbsp mayonnaise
8. Finally, add salt and black pepper for taste
9. Mix all these ingredients well

Your salad is ready. This salad makes for a great dinner option

Recipe 2: Poppy seed drink

Having poppy seeds also known as khas khas is very useful in this condition. These seeds are derived from opium poppy & when had with milk can help induce sleep

1. Add 1 cup milk to a vessel
2. When hot, add 1 tsp poppy seeds in it
3. Also add 1 tsp almond powder
4. Mix this
5. Finally, add 1 tsp honey
6. Pour this in a glass
7. Serve this drink hot

Drink this concoction at bedtime for a good sleep



• Stay away from coffee especially at night
• Avoid consuming salty & processed foods at bedtime
• Avoid fried & fatty foods
